Welcome, Miyoteh Ka Wisamiht Awiyak, Foonying, Svagat, Shalom, or Bienvenue! No matter how you say it, welcome back!
Welcome back to a brand new school year at Ruth Betts Community School! It was an amazing summer and we hope that yours was filled with good times spent with family and friends, enjoying the best of the long, hot summer days! Now it’s time to get back to the business of pencils and paper, busses and bells, recess and friends, lunches and crunches – woohoo!
Mrs. Hanna and I have been spending countless hours poring over endless book lists in search of just the right mix of new books especially for you and I think we’ve unearthed some pretty amazing new reads that you’re going to love! Great titles like, Me and You and the Red Canoe, Creepy Pair of Underpants, How Did That Get in My Lunchbox?, The Day Santa Stopped Believing in Harold, A Trio of Tolerable Tales, and more Pokémon books than a trainer can throw a Poke ball at!
We didn’t forget about the older crowd too, and have picked out some great reads like Yellow Dog, The Kneebone Boy, A Long Walk to Water, and Tracker’s Canyon. We also picked up Jon le Bon’s newest book, The Ultimate Symbol (what on earth are those guys up to now??) And don’t even get me started on the other new graphic novels that are winging their way northward as we speak…er…read! Plants vs Zombies, Space Dumplins, Star Wars, The Babysitter’s Club, and so many more. Prepare yourself – it’s going to be a wild and crazy time in the graphic novel section!
We’ve also selected the unbelievable series, Dorothy Must Die. Think you know everything about Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz? Uh uh, no way. Think again! Here’s a small taste of just what you’ll find when you crack open that first book…
“I didn’t ask for any of this.
I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado – taking you with it – you have no choice but to go along, you know?
Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still a yellow brick road—but even that’s crumbling.
What happened? Dorothy.
They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.
My name is Amy Gumm – and I’m the other girl from Kansas.
I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I’ve been trained to fight.
And I have a mission.”
Soooo, what do you think? Are you hooked?? I sure am! Pick ‘em up and read ‘em all. You’ll never think of the Wizard of Oz quite the same way ever again!
As you start your day, keep an ear on the announcements for all of the new contests that will be running throughout the year. Mrs. Hanna and I have some mind-boggling contests ready to roll out your way! Think you're up for the challenge?
Be sure to stop into the library often to browse the shelves, find reading and rave-worthy books, to enter new contests, and to check out the ever changing displays, or hey, even just to say hello!
Welcome back – we’ve missed your smiling faces and hope that you have a fantastic school year. It’s going to be a great one!
