The snow and ice are finally gone and the days are, at long last, longer, brighter, and warmer!
It’s time to dig out your bikes, trikes, and helmets, roller blades, skateboards, scooters, and wheelies and head out into the great outdoors!
We have been busy in the library getting all of the fantastic new books prepared and out for you to read. Have you read The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas? This book is an award-winning young adult novel that follows a protagonist drawn to activism after she witnesses the police shooting of her unarmed friend. Appropriate for grades 7 and up.
We haven’t forgotten about our middle-schoolers! You’ll find The Wild Robot by Peter Brown waiting patiently on the shelf for you to pick it up and check it out. “When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island. She has no idea how she got there or what her purpose is - but she knows she needs to survive.” How can you resist finding out what happens to poor Roz…and how on earth did she get on that island??
Our younger readers have some terrific new books too. How about Princesses Wear Pants or Hotel Bruce? There’s A Fly in My Soup, Pet Fairies to the Rescue, and How to Catch the Tooth Fairy have also recently landed on our shelves just for you!
We’ve got our animal lovers covered too with a great new Pals series. Have a look at Hamster Pals, Rabbit Pals, Guinea Pig Pals, Cat Pal, and yes, for you dog lovers, Dog Pals! Great photographs and excellent information about some of the cutest little animals you’ve ever seen!
Our April contest winner was…hold onto your hats…Aaliayah K. She added up 29 hats of all shapes and sizes hidden around the library and won the grand prize! Everyone who found their favorite hat that they thought they had lost forever was a winner too! Thanks to everyone who entered.
Our Count the Ducks contest for May is another big hit and we’re all having fun trying to count how many little yellow ducks are hiding between the books, on the shelves, and around the corners. I don’t know about you but they’re driving me quackers! Did you know that anatidaephobia is the fear that somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you?!!!
We’re heading into June soon and you know what that means. Yes, we’ll be asking for your books back so we can begin wrapping up for the end of the year. The last day to check out a book is June 7th so we’ll have time to check our inventory and look ahead to deciding what awesome new books we’re going to bring in for you next year.
We won’t leave you high and dry though and will be offering our grades 5, 6, and 7 students the Summer Reading Program again. For more information stop by the library and let Mrs. Hanna know that you are interested. We’ll soon have a form that will need to be signed by your folks before you can choose the books you want to borrow over the summer. Don’t forget that the public library also has tons of great books that are available to all of you any time of the year!
Enjoy the amazing weather and play safe. Watch for cars and be sure to stay off any ice left on creeks and lakes!
