Have you noticed that the days are getting longer? That it’s actually light when you come to school in the mornings ANNNNDDD when you leave after school now? How great is that?!
Mrs. Hanna and I have been busy in the library and we’ve got some fantastic news to share with you just in time for I Love to Read Week. An amazing group of people within our Flin Flon school division put their heads together and have developed an awesome reading package just for you! In an effort to make reading all of your favorite books, new and old, more easily available to you, we have now partnered with the digital book service, OverDrive.
Your teachers will soon be sharing the website address, login, and password information with you and will be introducing you to the advantages of being able to access thousands of digital reading resources with your smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
Did you finish your library book sooner than you expected and don’t have anything else to read? No problem! Sign into your OverDrive account and browse through the latest and greatest books. You’re sure to find something that catches your interest. Little brother bored and wants you to read him a story but doesn’t want the one you’re holding in your hand right now? No problem! Sign into your OverDrive account and browse together until he finds just the right book to read. Do you have a book report due and forgot to jot down a few great quotes from the book that you left at school? No problem! Sign into your account, locate the book, then click or tap Search to find all the places where the word (or phrase) appears in the book. Ah-mae-zing!
You can also: click or tap and hold a word until the highlighter pops up. Drag the cursor to select more than just one word.
OverDrive is new to most of us too and we’re all learning to navigate the system together. You’ll find an excellent Help section in OverDrive but be sure to ask your teacher or stop by the library anytime if you have any questions that you think we might be able to help you with.
Mrs. Hanna and I placed a couple of huge book orders in January and we are expecting those books to start arriving any day now. New mysteries, humor, thrillers, graphic novels, and non-fiction will soon be hitting the shelves. Keep an eye open and be the first one to check out any of these great new reads!
If you’ve had a chance to look over the new February calendar, you’ll see that it is going to be another busy, fun-filled month at Ruth Betts School. Join the walking club, drama or art clubs, try out cross-country skiing, finish up your science project, sign out a new digital book in OverDrive, orrrrr pop into the library and have a gander at all the new books!
Whatever you choose to do this chilly month of February, have fun with it and enjoy every moment of your day!
